What a pro does

The camera decides the job. Until a plumber has watched the inside of the lateral, root intrusion, a dropped joint, a belly, and a full collapse all look identical from the house. What the camera finds in this part of Tennessee and north Georgia tends to be shaped by the ground it's buried in. Thin soil over limestone means a lateral often rests on rock in one stretch and on soft fill in the next, and that uneven bedding is what pulls joints apart over the years. Sinkhole activity in karst country will do it faster and more locally. Old clay tile is still common in the streets around Rossville and LaFayette, and every joint in it is an invitation once roots get near. A locator marks the depth and the route so the yard work is specific rather than exploratory. Lining or bursting keeps the ground mostly closed where the host pipe can carry it. A collapsed stretch gets opened and replaced, and the bedding gets rebuilt underneath so the new pipe isn't laid straight back into the problem that broke the last one.
